12 Bar Grooves

Het bluesverleden van ex-Weekend at Waikiki-gitarist Eelco Engelsma en bassist Jaap de Jong loopt ruim 20 jaar nagenoeg parallel. Beiden speelden in de formatie NOSA en richtten begin 2003 samen met drummer Klaas Bosch en zanger/harpspeler Bert Jansen `Twelve Bar Grooves (12BG) op.

In de zomer van 2006 werd Eric Hof als gitarist toegevoegd aan de band.
12BG is ondertussen een bekende naam in het bluescircuit. Met hun onstuimige sandpaper- of schuurpapierblues hebben het Fries-Drentse vijfmanschap een degelijke livereputatie op in bluescafés en -festivals is Noord-Nederland opgebouwd.

Het geluid van 12BG wordt bepaald door een hartverscheurende bluesharmonica, een ruige strot, ijzersterke gitaarriffs en een geoliede ritmesectie. In een traditionele Chicagoblues-opstelling brengt 12BG werk van oude blueshelden (Willy Dixon, Little Walter, Muddy Waters) en hedendaagse artiesten (Lester Butler, Southside Johnny). Een niet onaanzienlijk deel van het repertoire bestaat inmiddels uit eigen werk.
